As an independent player in the Egyptian STI ecosystem, ECASTI is engaged in a diverse range of activities that aim at the dissemination of knowledge and expertise on STI policy and policymaking. These can be summarized as follows:
Research and Reports: ECASTI publishes reports, usually in the form of critical reviews, on issues related to the STI ecosystem. These include, for example, the role of legislation in policymaking, community perceptions of science and its role and society, performance indicators and impact measurement, and the link between basic science and applied science and technology. These reviews are integrated with stakeholder input, gathered through polling, surveys, and other research methods, on the application of these issues in the Egyptian context.
Policy Briefs: Having identified policy and regulatory quality as a key concern, ECASTI seeks to provide expert knowledge and advice on a number of STI priority policy areas through the publication of a series of policy briefs. Priority areas are identified based on Egypt’s performance in the relevant global indicators and policy briefs highlight key challenges, available policy tools, and relevant recommendations.
ECASTI Academy: The ECASTI Academy is a virtual space through which ECASTI provides educational materials related to STI policy, the use of science in policymaking, and the integration of scientific methods in decision-making processes. These materials are complemented by a series of on-the-ground training and capacity building workshops on related topics.
Position Statements: As a think tank, ECASTI consistently follows news and developments related to STI in Egypt and occasionally releases position statements on these issues where appropriate. These statements are based on our knowledge and expertise as an independent organization operating in Egypt.
