Dr. Mohamed El-Ashry is a Senior Fellow with the UN Foundation. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Geology from the University of Illinois (1966, 1963) and a BSc. from Cairo University (1959). He served as CEO and Chairman of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which he helped to establish, from 1994 to 2003. He also served as Chief Environmental Advisor to the President and Director of the Environment Department at the World Bank, Senior Vice President of the World Resources Institute (WRI), and Director of Environmental Quality at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Dr. El-Ashry has received a number of national and international awards, including the University of Illinois Alumni Achievement Award and the Haub Prize for International Environmental Diplomacy.
